The beginner or intermediate speaker often doesn’t get a chance to speak because advanced speakers are able to speak more freely. Here is a way to get everyone involved, play a word game. Here are a few examples with some tips on how to invite people to play with you.
The Alphabet Game
Make a word with the letter “A”. For example, “Apple”. The next person must say “Apple” and then a word that starts with “B”. For example, “Apple, …Banaana”. The next person then uses “C”. For example, “Apple, Banana, ….Cat”. Continue until you reach the letter “Z” This game takes some time to complete but it can be really fun.
I Spy
“I spy, with my little eye, something beginning with A”, and the other players have to guess what object you can see.Rez an image or use the holdeck to rez a scene. You can make rules like each person has three guesses, or the words have to be a noun, verb, or adjective. The winner chooses the next spy.
Picture Word Find
Rez a picture. Start with the letter “A” and try to make a word from the picture using the the letter “A” somewhere in the word. Then go on to “B” and so on. You can make this game easier with a picture that has a lot of objects (nouns) or actions (verbs). Adverbs and adjectives will be more difficult. You make the rules.
Buzz
This is a numbers game. The game starts with the first person saying “1″. The next person says “2″, next “3″, “4″, “5″, “6″, and then the person who is “7″ must say BUZZ. Then the direction reverses. Each time the circle reaches a “7″, and number ending in “7″ (17, 27), or a multiple of “7″ (14, 21, 28) the person must say BUZZ and the direction reverses. Be careful when you get to 27 and 28.
Coffee Pot
One person must teleport away from the areaor turn off their sound. The other members choose a simple verb like, “walk”, “run”, or “sleep”. They bring the person back to the group. The person can then ask yes or no questions to find out what the verb is. Substitute the verb with “coffee pot”. For example: The word is “sleep”.
- Do we coffee pot everyday?
- Yes
- Do we coffee pot alone?
- Yes
- Do we coffee pot at night?
- Yes
- Is the verb “sleep”?
- Yes
The person can ask as many questions as they would like but they have only three guesses before they must give up.
